WhatsApp is owned by Facebook and it is testing a new crossover feature back in June that would let users share their WhatsApp Status to Facebook Story. Today, that feature is rolling out to its users and available in the app.
WhatsApp hasn't made an official announcement about the rollout yet, but several users took to Twitter to report the arrival of this feature. We've also got it on our Android smartphones with version 2.19.258 of the app in India. But our iPhone in India and Android smartphones over at the HQ in Europe are yet to receive it, suggesting this is a limited rollout.
That said, WhatsApp has set up an FAQ page on its website detailing the steps to share a WhatsApp Status to Facebook Story or other apps, which suggests a global rollout should commence soon. If you happen to be one of the Android users who received this feature, you will see a "Share to Facebook Story" option under "My status" in the Status tab, with a share button right next to it.
Tapping on that share button will open the share tray, showing all the apps that you can share your WhatsApp Status with. And, tapping on "Share to Facebook Story" will present the Facebook app icon. Tapping on the Facebook app icon will open the app to let you share your WhatsApp Status to Facebook Story.
Also, if you've posted multiple status updates, then all of them will be shared with Facebook Story. So if you want to share only a few of them, you will have to go to the "My status" section, choose the ones you want to share, tap on the three-dot button in the top-right corner and then on the "Share to Facebook" option.
It's also worth noting that the WhatsApp Status you share with Facebook or other apps won't be protected with end-to-end encryption. And, this feature to share WhatsApp Status will be only available if you have Facebook for Android, Facebook for iOS or Facebook Lite installed on your device. If you received this feature, let us know by dropping a comment below.
