Google has already revealed quite a fair bit about its upcoming Pixel 4 series but has shied away from sharing its hardware specs. Courtesy of 9to5Google, some key specs of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have been leaked.
The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will share the same feature set. They will both be made of glass panels and house a large camera hump. They will also feature stereo speakers, though only the top one will fire directly at the front.
The interesting tidbit from the leak is that the Pixel 4 XL will ship with a 6.3-inch QHD+ OLED display while the Pixel 4 will come with a 5.7-inch FHD+ OLED display. Both panels will have a 90Hz refresh rate, the same as the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Very few smartphones in the market currently ship with a 90Hz OLED panel so this move will definitely set the Pixel 4 apart from the competition. Google plans on marketing this 90Hz panel as ‘Smooth Display.’
Moving on to the disappointing part, the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will ship with a 16MP telephoto lens. This will be accompanied by a 12MP primary shooter that will feature PDAF. The Pixel 4 series will not pack an ultra-wide-angle shooter that has become commonplace in premium and flagship smartphones. Relying on the image quality of the primary shooter is one thing but I feel that Google is missing the market trend completely by not including an ultra-wide angle shooter on the Pixel 4 series.
Other leaked specs of the handsets include 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB of storage, Snapdragon 855 chip, and a 2800mAh battery on the Pixel 4. The bigger Pixel 4 XL will come with a 3,700mAh battery. They will also come with Google’s Titan M security module which first debuted on the Pixel 3 last year.
Google will likely release the Pixel 4 series at its Made by Google event in October.
