Twitter's 'Lights Out' Dark Mode Will Release In September

After the release of the Lights Out mode for the iOS version of the Twitter app back in March, Twitter’s VP of design and research, Dantley Davis has revealed via his official Twitter handle that the true Dark mode called Lights Off will release to the Android version of the app by mid-September.

The tweet reads “Hey Android users: 'Lights out mode' on Android is on track to ship by mid-September. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…”. It is not yet clear why the company choose to roll out this feature on the iOS platform before the Android version of the app.

Unlike the existing dark mode in the app, the Light Out mode is the true dark mode which turns the background as Black when turned on. This will also help users to reduce eye fatigue and also help in saving some battery in case the smartphone has an OLED display as it turns off all the pixels, hence it reduces the overall power consumption of the device.

Twitter has also started rolling out a new feature that hides replies in the conversation. Dubbed as ‘Hide Replies’, it allows the user to hide a specific comment from the post thread behind an icon. Followers can still press that button to view that particular comment.
