Pre-orders for the Pixel phones are due to start shipping soon, but if you’ve held off on purchasing one of Google’s new devices you can still play around with plenty of the Pixel’s features on your Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X thanks to the crafty people over at XDA Developers. For those who says "We can't install it", remember this is only for 6P and 5X running 7.0 Stock.
We’ve already seen Google Assistant running on the Nexus 6P, but the one new feature that has remained inaccessible is Google Camera 4.2 that ships with the Pixel devices. This version of the app requires the 7.1 version of Android Nougat, so until now it has been unavailable on Nexus devices which don’t have that update yet.
XDA Developers has ported the app to work on Android 7.0 devices and they’ve confirmed it works on the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P so far. The developers note that they haven’t changed the build.prop in any way and because this is a modified version of Google Camera, it won’t install itself over your official camera app. Use ES File Explorer and if you have Google Camera installed already you will need to uninstall that.
