Today, LG announced the LG V20 with high expectations. It follows the G5, a device from earlier this year that fell short of major hype. Now LG is putting together the best elements from that phone and and last year’s V10 to create a complete device that touches upon many areas consumers care about. It’s coming at a time when Samsung, the top competitor in this industry, is facing a costly global recall that opens the door for LG to get its latest phone into the hands of millions around the world.

LG implemented a premium look and feel for this phone, staying true to the V series. Its body is composed of lightweight aluminum and a silicone-based material known as silicone polycarbonate. The latter is for absorbing impact if the V20 is dropped, and the company says the phone has passed military-grade durability tests. So you should expect your V20 to handle bumps and drops that occur at a moment’s notice.
There’s no getting around the fact that LG ditched the V10’s design to align it closer to the G5. Rather than the beautifully unique V10, the V20 looks like a G5 that underwent a makeover. Why did LG do this? Probably to streamline its flagship products and maintain familiarity between consumers and the brand.
Outside of the 5.7-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM, and 64GB base storage, you get a secondary display, HiFi DAC (32-bit), dual cameras, intense multi-media software features, and a body made of AL6013 steel that is found in aircraft. Oh, let’s also not forget that this is the first phone to run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
This is the newest “things and stuff” phone from LG that isn’t really messing around much, just like last year’s model.
While it’s the world’s first phone to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat, the V20 is not free from LG’s software overlay. The phone is covered by LG UX 5.0+, a slight upgrade from what you’ve seen on the G5. LG’s V20 is also first to have the new In Apps search function announced by Google last week.
The LG V20 will be available later this month in Korea, and you’ll have to wait for local announcements to find out when other regions will get the device. It’s likely LG will have the V20 on sale by in most regions by the end of 2016.

It is also the world’s first smartphone to come preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and the new Google In Apps phone search function.

The LG V20, powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor with X12 LTE, introduces Steady Record 2.0, leveraging Qualcomm Technologies’ electronic image stabilization (EIS) 3.0 to record sharper video footage while neutralizing shaky images. The gyro-based EIS improves sync accuracy between the image and the gyro by reducing sync latency to only 50 milliseconds. EIS is complemented by digital image stabilization (DIS) which further improves video quality in post-processing by adjusting objects across frames and minimizing distortion caused by rolling shutter for smoother action.
