If you’re involved in loads of groups on WhatsApp, you might have taken the decision long ago to mute a few of the more popular ones to avoid receiving loads of notifications.
Well, if you’re dead set on avoiding annoying updates, the bad news is the app has quietly introduced a new feature that means it’s basically impossible to avoid people in group chats – even if the conversation is muted.
WhatsApp beta introduced a new feature in v2.16.272. The new tagging system. This feature works a little bit like Twitter. To enable it simply start your message in a group chat with an ‘@’ symbol and you’ll see a contacts list pop up on your phone. You can tag multiple people in a single message.
The obvious benefit is you can keep a fast moving group conversation on track by highlighting people you want to direct the message towards. It works alongside other new features including the ability to quote messages in group chats to make it clear which message you are responding to.
Today's "feature" should be making its way to the stable client in the coming weeks.
All of these features are available in version 2.16.272 of the app and it can be downloaded from APK Mirror or you can join their Play Store beta program or to manually download the APK from APK Mirror .
